Search On for Man Seen Falling Into Southern Montana River

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Crews in south-central Montana are searching for a man who was seen falling into the Boulder River while fishing.

Sweet Grass County officials say the search began Wednesday and resumed Thursday along the river southwest of the town of Big Timber.

Sheriff Alan Ronneberg tells The Billings Gazette that fast-moving water and a waterfall about 300 feet (90 meters) downstream from where the man went into the water made it too dangerous to put people or boats in the water.

Searchers were using drones and walking along the shoreline while wranglers from a nearby dude ranch looked along the banks downstream from the waterfall, which has several tiers with a total drop of about 300 feet (90 meters).

Ronneberg says the missing man is a 50-year-old Montana resident.
