I’m not attacking or defending the Senate report on the CIA. If CIA operatives are guilty of torture, which they may be, the agency is guilty of another offense: creating a scenario that over shadows the 911 attacks. The real focus should always be that an extreme religious ideology believed it was moral to kill thousands of innocent civilians. That ideology is stronger today that it was on September 11, 2001. So be it, and let the consequences follow, if the CIA committed crimes against prisoners. However, Americans should never forget why those prisoners were detained in the first place. My name is E. Curtis Johnson. I believe torture is wrong. It’s morally abhorrent and is an ineffective tactic. It’s also wrong to excuse the actions of mass murders, because their compatriots were allegedly tortured. The real victims of 911 are the people killed, and their families, not prisoners at Gitmo.
