Crony capitalism is again corrupting the Federal Communications Commission. In the 1990’s, deregulating radio station ownership limits ruined radio broadcasting and cost thousands of jobs. For radio listeners, deregulation changed the majority of radio broadcasts from local uniqueness to a corporate cacophony of homogenous pablum. Deregulation backfired! Net neutrality is currently the law of the Internet. The FCC is again catering to the needs of big media corporations by proposing to eliminate net neutrality. Devotion to far right ideology is blinding many conservatives to what’s happening. Liken the Internet to a public street. Every car in a given speed zone is limited the stated speed. If the FCC eliminates net neutrality, big media corporation cars could faster while smaller company or private cars are consigned to the slow lane or kicked to the curb. Conservatives, if you wouldn’t want a big corporation to have driving privileges you can have, why would you want the FCC to give extra privileges to corporations on the internet.
