Fat shaming and drunk shaming entered our vocabulary last year. According to The Center for Investigative Reporting, 26 state officials have added water shaming to the nomenclature. Two city councilmen in the formerly golden – now, burned to a crisp, state of California – are among the worst water offenders. Riverside City Council Representative, Mike Soubirous was caught running his sprinklers seven nights a week, despite voting to forbid watering more than four times a week. Along with two other elected officials, Fresno City Council Representative, Oliver Baines, used more than 1 million gallons of water in 2013 and developed a sinkhole in his back yard. Elected officials rightly live in a fishbowl, but shouldn’t use more water than their constituent’s fish bowls. Furthermore, fish bowls should contain fish not water leaches. I’m E. Curtis Johnson. Elected officials don’t get to live above the laws they pass. Even if we weren’t suffering from severe drought, there wouldn’t be enough water to wash that shame off these hypocrites’ faces.
