If you’re impressed with Labron James shooting a 32-point game this week, consider this shot. The European Space Agency fired a probe out of Earth’s orbit in 2004. After 10-years of circling the solar system and 3.5 billion miles later it lands on Comet 67P. The probe will take samples over the next year and will give us data that we’ve never had before about comets. Some people criticize space exploration. I applaud it. Humans are a curious species. We should never stop learning everything we can about everything because all knowledge is valuable. Space exploration also has practical applications because it creates innovation, new products, and new economies. For those who don’t think we should spend money on space exploration, please stop using your cell phone and computer. All of the microcircuits in those devices are the result of the race to the moon that America had with the Russians in the 60’s.
