The crash of the Virgin Galactic SpaceShip Two is a tragedy and set back for Richard Branson’s plan to privatize low orbit space flight. Let’s hope it doesn’t ground the program. Some people labeled Branson’s venture an orbital amusement ride for the rich. I believe his idea is a breakthrough in scientific vision and commercial discovery. It’s a terrible irony that an attempt to do what only government has done, will likely attract more government involvement. All fatal failures are invitations for naysayers and buttinskis. People die from tripping while walking, falling off horses, and crashing bicycles. The first steam engine explosions caused horrific accidents. Despite NASA’s experience, the shuttle Columbia was a fatal flight as recent as 2003. People still die in automobile and commercial airline accidents. My name is E. Curtis Johnson. It’s tragic that the pilots of Virgin Galactic lost their lives. Abandoning their dreams and grounding their vision wastes their sacrifice.
