2014 Stanley Cup Finals — L.A. Kings Beat N.Y. Rangers In 2 OTs For Title

Alec Martinez scored the game-winning goal with 5:17 left in the second overtime, and the Kings beat the New York Rangers, 3-2, in Los Angeles on Friday night to win the 2014 Stanley Cup. By winning the championship series four games-to-one, the Kings claimed their second NHL title in three seasons.

Chris Kreider and Brian Boyle scored second period goals to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead going into the final period of regulation. Marian Gaborik evened the score for the Kings by notching his league-high 14th goal of the playoffs at 7:56 of the third.

Neither team was able to score in the first overtime period, which set the stage for Martinez's heroics in the second.

After the teams shook hands at center ice after the game, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman presented the iconic Stanley Cup trophy to Kings' team captain Dustin Brown, setting off a raucous celebration at the Staples Center.

Los Angeles right wing Justin Williams was named the winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He finished with 16 assists and nine goals, including the first of the night for the Kings.
