Montana voters went for underdog Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday with results announced after most major news outlets had anointed Hillary Clinton the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.  Montana added to Donald Trump’s Republican delegate count with all 27 GOP delegates, while Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock and Bozeman GOP businessman Greg Gianforte, easily won their party’s primary elections.
An Associated Press count published Monday showed Clinton had already secured the delegates needed for the nomination, but Montana marched to the beat of its own drum once again.  Montana Sanders backers said wait for the official tally at next month’s Democratic National Convention.
Bob Filipovich of Helena, who voted for Sanders, said a game-changing Clinton revelation is not out of the realm of possibility.  While Sanders won the popular vote, the state’s 21 pledged delegates will be proportionally divided between the Democratic candidates based on the final results.
