GARRYOWEN, Mont. (AP) — A small Montana town near the historic site of the Battle of Little Bighorn is being auctioned Wednesday afternoon.

The bidding starts at $250,000 for Garryowen, an eight-acre site just off Interstate 90 that includes a post office, a residence, a museum and a Subway restaurant.

Garryowen is just a few miles from where Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and more than 200 U.S. Cavalry troopers and scouts from the Crow Tribe were killed in June 1876, by up to 1,800 Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne warriors.

Christopher Kortlander built the Custer-themed compound nearly 20 years ago. His Custer Battlefield Museum is not for sale.

Also being auctioned are manuscripts from Custer's wife, Elizabeth.

The auction is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be held by Williams and Williams.
