MHP Finds 8 lbs of Meth in Spare Tire
The Gazette reports Montana Highway Patrol officers found eight pounds of methamphetamine in a spare tire after a traffic stop in Stillwater County in which the driver, 31-year-old Manuel Sanchez Jr., reportedly told officials he’d been visiting Yogi Bear in Yellowstone National Park.
Sanchez, of Sacramento, California, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Cavan in Billings on Thursday on a criminal complaint, charging him with possession of meth with intent to distribute. Sanchez waived a preliminary hearing, and the case will be presented to a grand jury for indictment. He remains in custody.
If convicted, Sanchez faces a mandatory minimum 10 years to life in prison and a $10 million fine. Sanchez was arrested on Tuesday after a Montana Highway Patrol trooper pulled over his 2017 Ford Fusion for following a vehicle too closely, heading eastbound on Interstate 90.
