On February 7th America arrives at another fiscal cliff as the suspension of the temporary debt limit ends. To not raise the debt limit would break the promise Congress made to fund the liability.

Republicans are unlikely to repeat the game of chicken they played last year. Not only did that tactic fail miserably, 2014 is also an election year. No politician risks office in an election year. So, it’s likely the debit ceiling will rise and Congress will kick the can down the road, again.

Falling on one’s sword is an old expression that refers to taking responsibility for one’s actions, even if it means ending one’s life.The average member of Congress is more worried about his own skin than the economy.

I’m starting to believe that term limits are the only hope we have of replacing self-servants in Congress with public servants. Term limits won’t look as dramatic on TV as legislators literally falling on their swords for not accomplishing anything worthwhile, but, unlike anyone in Congress, I’m willing to compromise.
