During the Cold War, I lived North Western Montana. I knew that 300 miles away Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls had 150 Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. I forgot about ICBM’s until news of a cheating scandal broke involving 100 nuclear launch officers at Malmstrom.

Allegations included cheating on tests, covering up the cheating and sleeping on duty. The investigation report was released on Thursday. Nine officers have been relived of duty. Seventy-nine have been disciplined.  According to the Federation of American Scientists, the U.S. has 7,700 nuclear warheads. Russia has 8,500.

The situation in the Ukraine and Crimea makes one wonder if a hibernating Russian bear is waking up. Here in America we elected a president who said in 2012, “…the Cold War’s been over for 20-years.”

My name is E. Curtis Johnson. President Obama has something in common with the disgraced missile launch officers. He’s a sleep at the switch and he works in a protected silo.
