After the Australian G20 Summit, President, Xi Jinpin of China said, “There’s only one trend in today’s world…the trend of peace…and win/win cooperation.” Jinping pledged to never use force to resolve conflicts. Then he inspected Australia’s military. Inspecting troops is an odd activity after committing to peace. Did Australia not believe China’s president? China promises peace and Australia says, “Look at our military!” If Jinping committed to vegetarianism would Australia reply, “I’ll slip an extra shrimp on the Barbie for you.” If Jinping said, “The Chinese are committed to sobriety,” would the Australian’s whip out a case of Foster’s? Peace is great, but I would have committed Jinping to improve predictions in fortune cookies and to cut the amount of MSG in Chinese food. China needs the world to buy what it makes. We’re more likely to die from the bad advice of a fortune cookie, or a reaction to MSG, than from going to war with China. I’m E. Curtis Johnson. Clearly, the State Department will not be hiring me anytime soon.
