The Gazette reports that Billings school trustees selected Ross Kasun, a superintendent from New Jersey, as the person to take Billings schools “to the next level.” Trustees voted 6-2 to hire Kasun, however, he still needs to negotiate a contract with the city administration and accept the job. He was one of three finalists to replace retiring SD2 superintendent Terry Bouck.

In selecting Kasun, trustees reportedly opted for an agent of change. His Freehold Township, New Jersey district recently underwent an extensive overhaul that emphasized the use of technology to help students learn at their own pace, and he pitched a vision of turning Billings schools into a [quote] “lighthouse district” [end quote] that could be a model for other school districts. Greg Upham of Helena was the trustee’s unanimous second choice if Kasun doesn’t take the job.
