Dress Code Double Standard – Opinions From E. Curtis Johnson [OPINION]

My educator friends will smack me across the knuckles with a ruler for this.  An on campus student dress code is understandable, but the same rules shouldn’t apply to parents. Yahoo reports that a member of the Broward County Public School Board wants parents to adhere to the same dress code as students.They’ll find real meat in the school cafeteria meatloaf before this rule passes.

First of all, this story takes place in Florida. Ban 15-year-old Loretta from wearing “Dukes of Hazard” yoga pants, but you can’t stop Loretta’s mom, Lurelene, from coming an awards ceremony in curlers. Ban 16-year-old DeShawn from wearing baggy pants to school, but good luck to the vice-principle who has to throw the young man’s dad of the campus for wearing a wife beater.

My name is E. Curtis Johnson. Since corporal punishment was removed from schools, the ability to publicly embarrass our offspring at school is the only means of control we parents have left.
