MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — A Montana woman who injured two people with her vehicle has been sentenced to 40 years in a state hospital.

The Missoulian reports that 42-year-old Nicole Serna was sentenced Tuesday to the commitment in Montana State Hospital.

Serna pleaded “guilty but mentally ill” last month to criminal endangerment and two counts of attempted deliberate homicide as part of a plea agreement that dismissed two counts of negligent endangerment.

Court records say Serna ran down and critically wounded a woman near an elementary school and a man on a public street with her pickup truck in March 2018.

Authorities say she was suffering from untreated mental illness.

Serna will be eligible to petition for a sentence review after clearance by officials at the hospital in Warm Springs.
