Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks is beginning to prepare for wolf trapping season and anyone that wants to trap this year will need to get some prerequisites out of the way first. "We are gearing up to hold our late summer/early fall wolf trapper certification classes for this year," said FWP spokeswoman Vivica Crowser. "The classes are mandatory for anyone that is going to go out and trap wolves. Anyone who is going out for the first time needs to make sure they attend one of these classes."

Crowser says that demand for the trapping classes last year was extremely high.

"We had a lot of classes in the west central Montana region last year, ten I believe. There were 75 to 100 people in attendance at each of those meetings. There was a lot of participation at those classes and we expect that, because so many people went through the courses last year, that there won't be quite the demand this year."

This year the number of classes in the region has been reduced to just four. Below are the times, dates and places for each class.

There will be three classes in Missoula on Sunday, Aug. 25, Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 6. Classes are all day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (5705 Grant Creek Road).

There will be one class in Anaconda on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lee Metcalf Center (115 E Pennsylvania).

Registration for the classes is free and can be done online.
