POLSON, Mont. (AP) — Authorities say three people have died in a two-vehicle collision in northwestern Montana.

Lake County Sheriff Don Bell and Lake County Director Emergency Services Mark Clary tell KERR-AM radio that the crash happened Monday morning on U.S. Highway 93 between Ronan and St. Ignatius.

The highway was closed for several hours near the Ninepipe National Wildlife Refuge.

Montana Highway Patrol trooper Zachariah Miller tells the Daily Inter Lake that a sedan with two Minnesota men inside left the road, hit a guardrail and then collided head-on with a car driven by a Lake County woman when it returned to the roadway.

All three died at the scene of the crash. Their names weren’t immediately released.

Miller says alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
