HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A third Republican has filed to run for Montana’s U.S. House seat left open by Rep. Greg Gianforte’s decision to run governor.

Lewis and Clark County Republican chairman Joe Dooling filed his paperwork Monday with the Federal Election Commission.

He joins State Auditor Matt Rosendale and Secretary of State Corey Stapleton in the race for the Republican nomination for the state’s only House seat.

Rosendale and Stapleton announced their candidacies earlier this month after Gianforte said he’d give up the seat to campaign for governor.

The 44-year-old Dooling is a farmer and rancher. His wife Julie represents state House District 70 east of Helena.

He said he plans to hold a news conference Wednesday to announce his candidacy.

Former legislator Kathleen Williams and first-term state Rep. Tom Winter are the Democrats running for the open seat.
