"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey"

Becoming the 15th movie in history to do so, 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' passed the $1 billion mark this past week, the second in Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' films to do so. But how much further can it go?

Welcome back, SNL! Everyone's simultaneously beloved and hated live sketch comedy show returned last night after its holiday break and, naturally, they had to play catch-up, making fun of everything that they missed in the past couple of weeks. Though Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' hit screens mere hours ago, it's already on track to have the highest opening weekend of any picture to open in December. That's right, it's on track to open bigger than 'Avatar.'

By now you're well aware of the controversy surrounding Peter Jackson's decision to shoot 'The Hobbit' in 48fps, a higher frame rate that has given the movie, at least in the early going, a sped-up and slightly disorienting appearance.
