HELENA, Mont. (AP) — State Rep. Forrest Mandeville of Columbus is seeking the Republican nomination for secretary of state.

Mandeville said Wednesday he’s a strong advocate for secure and accessible elections, ensuring a friendly business climate and responsible development of natural resources.

Mandeville is in his third term in the state House and is chairman of a committee whose subjects include election law and campaign finance. He’ll face off against outgoing Senate President Scott Sales in the Republican primary.

Secretary of State Corey Stapleton, a Republican, is running for Montana’s lone U.S. House seat.

State Sen. Bryce Bennett of Missoula is seeking the Democratic nomination.
