If you hear folks in Montana complaining about a hot summer, they’re not wrong. According to National Weather Service Meteorologist Luke Robinson, temperatures so far this month have been above normal.

"For the first part of July, we were quite a bit above normal in terms of high temperatures throughout Western Montana," Robinson said. "Actually, on July 8th, we did break a record here in Missoula, we reached 101 degrees and the old record was 99 and that was set back in 1943.

The record breaking heat is in the rear view window now though, and things are about to make a rapid swing the other direction.

"This week we are looking at more normal temperatures for the region, in the mid to upper 80s in most locations, then on Friday, we are looking for temperatures to be below normal, about five to six below normal. "

Robinson says a high-pressure system is leaving, allowing moisture from the southwest to stream into Missoula, causing humidity to rise and temperatures to drop.
