Not Interested: Bullock Declines Schumer on Senate Run

When it comes to Gov. Steve Bullock's (D-MT) plans in 2020, Glenn Thrush with the New York Times offers what seems to be the most revealing piece yet.

Last week, we told you how Bullock is hoping for a sit down with Hillary Clinton (she is yet to return the call) as he attempts to run for president in 2020. We also got word from Politico that Bullock met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and told Schumer that he is not interested in running for the US Senate.

Why not run for the US Senate? Here's Glenn Thrush's report in The New York Times:

But Mr. Bullock has a bigger — if far less attainable — aspiration: running for president.

Mr. Bullock has told people around him that he has absolutely no intention of running for anything other than the White House, and is concerned about the strain on his family. His wife, Lisa Downs Bullock, a mathematician by training and mother of three, has told friends that she would relocate to Washington only if they were moving into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, according to two people familiar with their plans.

While Bullock hasn't gotten a sit down with Hillary yet, he was able to sit down with Bill Clinton, as The Washington Post reports:

So far, none of the party’s early front-runners has had a formal meeting with Clinton. Nor have the women who are running in the historically diverse primary field.

Instead, Clinton has spoken mostly with male candidates who are considered longshots for the Democratic nomination, including Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, former Housing secretary Julian Castro and former Maryland Rep. John Delaney.
