Montana’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester is concerned about the investigation into Russia’s efforts and connections to the Trump administration, while Republican Sen. Steve Daines backs President Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.  Tester said in a statement [quote] “No one is above being held accountable, not even the President of the United States…I am deeply concerned that this decision will result in an abandonment of the FBI’s ongoing efforts and it underscores the urgent need for an independent investigation.” [end quote]

In February, Tester called for an independent investigation after the intelligence community confirmed that Russia coordinated cyberattacks during the 2016 presidential election.  Sen. Daines stated in a press release that [quote] “Director Comey has lost the confidence and respect of both sides of the aisle including the organization he was charged with leading.” [end quote]
