HELENA, Mont. (AP) — A top aide to Montana Secretary of State Corey Stapleton has filed to run for her boss’s job next year.

Chief of Staff Christi Jacobsen, a Republican, filed her candidate registration on Friday with the state Office of the Commissioner of Political Practices. She lists Stapleton’s office manager, Susan Ames, as her campaign treasurer.

Stapleton is leaving his office after one term to seek the GOP nomination for Montana’s U.S. House seat, which will also be an open election with U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte running for governor.

Jacobsen joins state Senate President Scott Sales and state Rep. Forrest Mandeville, the other Republicans running for secretary of state.

State Sen. Bryce Bennett is running as a Democrat.
