Montana is nearly dead last when it comes to highway fatalities, but top 10 when it comes to highway performance and effectiveness.

According to the Annual Highway Report just released by Reason Foundation, "Montana ranks 49th in fatality rate, 14th in deficient bridges, 17th in rural Interstate pavement condition, 8th in urban Interstate pavement condition, and 9th in urbanized area congestion."

When it comes to highway performance and effectiveness, Montana is ranked number 6. Also of note, when it comes to state-controlled highway mileage, Montana's is the 25th largest system in the US.
