BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The Montana National Guard has proposed building a helicopter maintenance facility near the Billings Logan International Airport.

The Billings Gazette reports Montana Department of Military Affairs officials presented the plan to Yellowstone County Commissioners on Monday.

The guard aims to buy land from Billings Flying Service to construct an aviation maintenance building.

Department master planner Rich Lamach says the initial project would take up 20 acres (8 hectares), but it could be later expanded to 100 acres (40 hectares).

Lamach says the facility would likely employ about five people and host two trainings each month for about 50 guard members. The facility would support about six helicopters.
