BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — A Montana man jailed awaiting trial on charges that he killed his estranged wife and critically injured her housemate is charged with assaulting a Gallatin County detention officer.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports Joseph Paul DeWise of Bozeman was charged Monday with felony assault on a peace officer. Justice of the Peace Bryan Adams added $150,000 to DeWise’s $1 million bail for deliberate homicide in the 2018 shooting death of Lauren Walder DeWise. He has pleaded not guilty and his trial is set for December.

Investigators say Joseph DeWise pushed a jailer and punched him in the face because he was irritated that no one woke him up to give him his medication.

Court records say DeWise told another deputy that he hit the officer because he felt threatened. Saturday’s interaction was captured on video.
