July 4th Fireworks Shows in and Near Billings

The celebration of our Nations Independence is closely approaching and once again there will be plenty of ‘rockets’ red glare’ in the skies above Yellowstone County. The question is whether they are legal or not!

Over the years your choice for big firework shows has dwindled down to two choices. There are always the local neighborhood gatherings of firework displays, and we hope if you choose to partake in one of these you are careful and mindful of your surroundings.

But there are other options too.

For over 50 years the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department has presented the community with a display that they claim is the biggest in the State of Montana. KC Bieber is a volunteer with the Department in Laurel and says putting together the Firework show is really a year round process. Planning and fundraising for show never stops. KC figures there are well over 1,000 man hours put into putting the show on for people to enjoy.

The show is the culmination of a full day of events at Thomson Park in Laurel. That includes live music and food. But the real star of the show is the 25 minute display that goes off at dusk. It’s amazing that $40,000 in Fireworks can go by that quick isn’t it?

And KC reminds everyone who comes out to the park that the Fire boots will be out collecting money for the next year’s show.

In Billings, Harvest Church is once again spearheading the show at Castle Rock Park in the Heights. A 19 minute display is being planned to cap off a full afternoon of live music, BBQ, dunk tanks, inflatable houses and more.

LeAnne from Harvest Church tells us that the Fourth of July fun has been going on for over 8 years at Castle Rock Park. The day is totally funded by the Church as a thank you to the community. PyroFX handles the fireworks show and promises another evening filled with plenty of bang, boom and color.

If want to hit the road for Fireworks you might want to take a short drive to Red Lodge. The Chamber of Commerce hosts a smaller firework show on the East Bench of Downtown starting at 10 sharp.

Traveling a little further for fireworks might lead you west on I-90 to Livingston. Just like they have for the last 90 years the little town of Livingston hosts their annual rodeo round-up, complete with a parade, arts and crafts and the 4^th of July fireworks show over the river.

No matter what you do to celebrate your Independence, remember to keep it on the sane side .
