Homeless Persons’ Vigil Will Take Place On Courthouse Lawn

A candlelight vigil will take place on the first day of winter, December 21st, to remember homeless persons who have died.

This is the 25th year RiverStone Health Healthcare for the Homeless will host the Homeless Persons' Memorial Vigil on the Yellowstone Country Courthouse lawn at 12:15pm on Friday, December 21st.

Attendees are invited to bring donations of new socks, mittens, scarves and hats that can be hung on the 'Tree of Warmth' and will later be distributed to the homeless.

In 2017 more than 1,700 people received services or medical care at area shelters thanks to RiverStone Health Healthcare for the Homeless.  According to a January survey, 19% of Montana's homeless population was in Yellow County's District 7.

People living on the streets are only part of the homeless population in Billings.  The homeless who are staying temporarily with relatives or friends, living in low-cost motels, sleeping in their cars or couch-surfing from one place to the next, are largely invisible to the rest of the community. -Clarence Salley, care manager for Riverstone Health Healthcare for the Homeless
