Hail and Flash Floods Could be Headed to Western Montana This Wednesday

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service are warning about the possibility of severe thunderstorms this Wednesday, July 23.

"This week is an interesting one for weather," said NWS meteorologist Genki Kino who said Wednesday's thunderstorms are expected to be preceded by less-intense storms on Tuesday and followed by a cold front on Thursday.

Along with thunder, the storms are expected to bring gusty winds, quarter-sized hail, rain and gusty winds from the southwest. Areas prone to flash floods are warned that flooding may be a problem too.

Kino says the cold front will bring extremely cool temperatures to upper elevation areas, for example, Logan Pass in Glacier is expected to have a high of around 40 degrees on Thursday.

The system is expected to make way for a warming trend by Friday that will stretch through the weekend.
