Gianforte Considers Run for Governor
Republican U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte says he’s considering another run for Montana governor in 2020.
The second-term congressman lost to the incumbent, Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock, in 2016. Bullock’s leaving office due to term limits, and Gianforte would be joining a growing field of Republicans seeking to re-claim the seat for the GOP.
Gianforte spokesman Travis Hall said Tuesday that the congressman “is seriously considering a run for governor” after receiving strong encouragement from the Montanans he meets throughout the state.
Hall declined to elaborate or say when Gianforte is expected to make a decision.
If he decides to run, Gianforte would be competing against Attorney General Tim Fox, Secretary of State Corey Stapleton and state Sen. Al Olszewski for the Republican nomination. No Democrat yet has announced a run for governor.
