Former University of Montana Quarterback Jason Washington Found Guilty On Drug Charges

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Medical marijuana provider Jason Washington was found guilty of two federal drug charges, but was acquitted on a firearms charge.

The former University of Montana quarterback was convicted Thursday of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute.

The Missoulian reports (http://bit.ly/UAzYAc) defense attorney Kwame Manley called the verdicts disappointing and said they would continue fighting to make sure Washington gets justice.

Federal agents raided Washington's three businesses in November 2011, including a marijuana grow operation and a medical marijuana dispensary. Five of six of his co-defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to maintain a drug-involved premises, with the longest prison sentence being 125 days.

Manley questioned why Washington was singled out for prosecution and argued he was following the state's medical marijuana law.

Prosecutors argued he was trafficking marijuana.
