A fire that burned red hot at the base of the Billings Rimrocks was extinguished Thursday.  The first calls came in just after 5 p.m., reporting that a brush fire had broken out in the area near Radcliffe Dr. and Rugby Dr. North of Rimrock Road.  Billings Fire Chief Bill Rash says within a few minutes of receiving the fire call, strong winds pushed the fire onto the rims.

At least two structures were reportedly threatened, but none were damaged. The burned acreage is about 7 to 8 acres.  The Billings Fire Department, DNRC, BLM and Airport Fire and Rescue responded to the call.  The fire was extinguished in about an hour.  As of 6:20 p.m. crews were still in the area cleaning up hot spots.  No official word on the cause of the fire.
