I remember the morning this Politico story was first published. Democratic Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) was facing widespread criticism for voting to continue the government shutdown. His critics took him to task for choosing illegal immigrants over our troops. So Politico did this piece headlined "Tester puts reelection on the line with risky shutdown vote."

Then I saw the line in the piece about Tester backhandedly referring to Matt Rosendale as "Rosenberg." I even mentioned on the radio: Now, I'm not going to say that Jon Tester is an anti-Semite or anything, but can you imagine if a Republican had said this?

As I predicted, there was nothing in the Montana media about this story (at least from what I saw). This was despite the fact that a national political reporter for NBC News called Tester out for his remarks via Twitter. NBC's Jonathan Allen said Tester's remarks were "less dog whistle than air horn."

Here's the specific tweets:

So last week on the radio, I told listeners about this "konichiwa" story, and I said- you watch. The same media that ignored this story about Jon Tester, despite a national political reporter from NBC News pointing it out, will jump all over this story and bash the Republican. And, of course, they did.

It begs the question, did the Billings Gazette editorial board give Jon Tester a pass?
