Missoula police said a dead woman was found lying outside Missoula's St. Patrick Hospital early Saturday morning.

Sergeant Colin Rose said the woman's body was discovered at about 8:00 a.m.

"At about 8:10, there was a 9-1-1 call about an unresponsive person outside the southwest corner of the St. Pat's Broadway building," Rose said. "Officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded, and found what was later determined to be a 53 year-old transient female who was unresponsive, and pronounced deceased at the scene."

Rose said the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

"There was some blood at the scene, and we're unsure right now if there was a crime," he said. "Missoula Police Department detectives and the Missoula County Coroner's Office are concurrently conducting the investigation. The area was covered with snow and there were no recent tracks. It appeared that the incident happened sometime before or during the snowfall last night."

Rose asks anyone who may have information about the deceased woman or what may have happened, to contact the lead investigator in the case, Detective Guy Baker, at 396-3217.
