Ceremony Honors WWI Female Veterans

A ceremony in Billings on Thursday will honor 23 female World War I veterans.  Yellowstone County Commissioners approved a resolution yesterday honoring the women who served their nation during the first World War.  The Billings Gazette reports that the resolution came with a reminder from Commissioner Robyn Driscoll that 23 Yellowstone County residents will be remembered at 10 a.m. tomorrow in a ceremony on the courthouse lawn.

According to Ed Saunders of the Disabled American Veterans’ Billings chapter, 21 women served in the U.S. Army Nurses Corps and two were in yeoman administrative support in the U.S. Navy.  The women’s names and the places they served have been memorialized on a bronze plaque that will be displayed permanently on the courthouse lawn.  The plaque will be unveiled 100 years to the day after America entered the first World War.
