Extra police patrols are at Billings schools today because of a presumed social media hoax where someone threatened to bring a gun to school, according to Superintendent Terry Bouck.

He told Q2 News that, although the threats appear to be unfounded, he’s talked with Billings police and requested the extra patrols. BPD Lt. Brian Korrel said the threat does not appear to be valid but school resource officers have been notified.

The Facebook post appears to be from an individual named Ray Andres who identifies his school as “SHS” and says he will bring a gun to school and people should prepare to hear shots. A search for the individual’s name in Facebook brings back dozens of results across the country, indicating the likelihood of a hoax. However, it prompted investigations of schools that can be identified as “SHS.”
