Billings Police now say that the report of an attempted child abduction earlier this week was false.  On Wednesday– based on Billings Police Department information– we reported that a 12-year-old boy was grabbed by an unidentified man who was looking into cars near 10th Street West and Avenue B.  The boy told authorities that when he passed the man, he tried to grab him. The boy ran home and told his parents, who reported it to police.

On Thursday, a school resource officer conducted a follow-up investigation. Through interviews with residents, the officer discovered inconsistencies in the boy’s story.
Video surveillance in the area could not corroborate the child’s report. When the resource officer re-interviewed the boy about inconsistencies in the report, the child admitted that the incident did not happen.  Any disciplinary action taken against the child will be handled by the child’s parents and the school.
