UPDATE - 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17.
The Missoula County Coroner has released the name of the fatal one-vehicle rollover near Lake Alva on Thursday morning as 60 year-old David Solum of Condon. The cause of death is accidental and the manner of death was ruled as blunt force trauma.
Solum was an employee of Pyramid Mountain Lumber Company.
The Sheriff's Office also released the identity of another Pyramid Mountain Lumber Company employee who lost his life on Thursday morning after a vehicle he was working on fell on him. He was identified as Phillip Pohlman of Seeley Lake. The cause of death was accidental, and the manner of death was traumatic asphyxia.
Both Solum and Pohlman worked at Pyramid Mountain Lumber Company.
An unidentified 60 year-old man was killed in a one vehicle accident early Thursday morning on Highway 83 near Lake Alva.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Rob Strauch said the accident was reported just after 6:00 a.m.
"The vehicle was southbound on Highway 83, crossed the center line, went off the left side of the road and over-corrected," Strauch said. "The vehicle overturned and the driver was ejected, he was not wearing a seat belt. He was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee."
Strauch said the investigation is ongoing, but did provide some details from the scene.
"The roads were wet, but they weren't icy," he said. "I'm not sure why he went off the road. I don't have any suspicions of any alcohol or drugs, but we'll wait for the toxicology results. I checked both sides of the road to see if a deer may have jumped out in front of the vehicle, but I only found one set of deer tracks in the vicinity of the crash, but I don't think it could have played any part in this crash even if it was there."
Strauch said from his initial investigation, it does not appear that the driver was not speeding, in fact that he was actually driving under the speed limit.
The victim's name will be released after his family is notified.
