Zimmerman Trail Not Open Now Until June, Probably
When the rock slide happened last month the estimated re-opening date for Zimmerman Trail was to be by the end of May or the first part of June. That has all changed now!Nothing is certain at this point as we are talking about 2,000 pound rocks that need to be removed.
- Whale Testicles, Just in case you were wondering, for the next time you come across a whale and start feeling frisky. The right whale, one of the largest whales on Earth, has testicles that weigh roughly 1,000 pounds EACH.
The removal and repair of Zimmerman Trail will be paid for by Federal Highway Funds to the tune of $1 to $2 million! The guard rail itself is a $50,000 repair. There is no Montana company who can do the rock removal so it has been contracted from outside of the state according to Billings Public Works Director, Dave Mumford.
Mumford also stated,
as fast as we can get it open, we will, but realistically (it will open) sometime middle to the end of June.
