Yellowstone National Park’s South entrance has been closed, due to several fires growing in the area including a blaze blocking access to the south entrance.  The West Entrance remained open, but the Maple fire has burned more than 27,000 acres, about five miles northeast of Yellowstone, and reached nearly reached the roadway to the west entrance.  The fire is not expected to cross the road, however, if fire activity or smoke increases, pilot cars will be used to guide cars through the area, according to the National Park Service.

Fire activity closed a stretch of U.S. Highway 89 in Grand Teton National Park between Leeks Marina and north to Flaggs Ranch.  The closure affects travelers planning to use Yellowstone National Park’s south entrance.  Lizard Creek Campground has also been evacuated.  About 100 people are monitoring the Maple fire.  Resources including firefighting aircraft and engines are in the area.
