Does everyone think they deserve a tip just  because they're employed?

Take Subway, for instance. There's a tip jar by the cash register. Now I know it's voluntary but why should I tip just because you rang up my sandwich?

It's your job.

There's no tip jar at an auto parts store or Ace hardware when they help me find a pipe fitting. How about a receptionist at the doctor's office, or someone at a drive up window?

If there is no amount of extra pampering beyond the expected job, then why tip just because you're there?

I'm a big tipper but only if the effort and service is above the minimum required, not just because you showed up for work.
