To start the Memorial Day weekend, on Friday, May 27, the Stop Human Trafficking in Montana Conference will be held on the University of Montana campus.

Conference organizer Kimberly Dudik said there will be a full day of events on campus to address the problem of human trafficking in Montana.

"We have partnered with the Mansfield Center, Soroptomists International out of Kalispell, and various other groups to bring awareness of this issue," Dudik said. "We have three events that day starting bright and early at 7:30 a.m. with the Montana Red Sand Project. Every participant gets a small package of red sand and they spread it through the cracks to signify people falling through the cracks. That will be taking place at the UM Oval."

Dudik said the actual conference will get underway at 8:30 a.m.

From 8:30 to about 4:30 p.m. we have a great line-up of speakers," she said. "Senator Jon Tester will be there along with Attorney General Tim Fox, along with various professionals from our own community, as well as someone from the Department of Homeland Security to talk about what they're doing on a national level."

Anyone interested in signing up for the conference should visit the official website.
