In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, St. Vincent Healthcare is encouraging the community to gear up and ‘Bust Out Breast Cancer’ with a 5K race or 1 mile walk during the second annual Eva’s Run on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The race and walk will begin and finish at St. Vincent Frontier Cancer Center. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. and the 1 mile begins at 9:15 a.m.

Helene Neville, a nurse, cancer survivor and health activist known for her “One on the Run” running journeys across and around the U.S., will open the Eva’s Run Ceremony’s, according to a news release. Earlier this month, she completed her 2015 run, traveling from St. Stephen, New Brunswick (Canada) to Ocean Shores, Wash.

Registration for Eva’s Run is available online by searching “Eva’s Run” at www.imathlete.com. All participants will receive a T-shirt and breast cancer survivors will receive a pink shirt with “survivor” printed on the back.

Proceeds from Eva’s Run benefit the EVA Project, which provides free mammograms to women over the age of 40 who are uninsured or underinsured.

“Yearly mammograms are very, very important in the battle against breast cancer,” said St. Vincent Healthcare Breast Health Navigator, Ella Dugan-Laemmle. “Early detection really is the key to breast health.”
