The Shamrock Run on Sunday kicked off the 2017 racing season in Billings.  The 5k run started on 3rd Street West near Daylis Stadium and finished in Pioneer Park.  KTVQ.com reports that the Shamrock Run used to include a 10k, but poor weather through the years led to the cancellation of that race.

The Shamrock Run is also a membership drive for the Yellowstone Rimrunners, and about 300 of a registered 600 members came out Sunday.  Former Rimrunners president Ryan Grubb said this is a traditional race, believed by club members to be about 30 years old.  He added [quote] I think it’s safe to say we’re part of the oldest consecutive running race in Billings.” [end quote]  The Shamrock run also features a one-mile race for kids, and a beer garden and costumes have become a St. Patrick’s tradition.
