A Jefferson County, Colorado school board member proposed changing the curriculum in Advanced Placement U.S. history to reflect patriotism and omit teaching about civil disobedience. The minutes of a closed school board meeting said, “Materials should not encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law” and that “Instructional materials should present positive aspects the United States and its heritage.” The proposal was tabled. However, over 1000 students at Columbine and Dakota Ridge high schools protested by picketing and refusing to attend class.  As of this writing, the school walkout has lasted for four days. I’m E. Curtis Johnson: cynic. America was born through civil disobedience and rebellion against unjust authority. Kudos to the students for fighting revisionist history! Although, history is an unpopular subject and few students take A.P. U.S. History.  Here’s a wink to some of the students for writing hooky into the Declaration of Independence.
