Recently, I took a trip to South Carolina to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday. Traveling is already stressful enough, but when you have pets that need to be left behind, the puzzle gets a little tougher.

Thanks to my cat-loving daughter, I have a cat at home.  He's not too tough to deal with for the most part.  The standard food, water, and litter box cleaning takes care of his needs for the most part. However, when you're going to be gone for over a week, somebody has to deal with those things.

It never occurred to be to look into "Pet Lodging", so I simply decided to burden a family member with looking after him.  I don't think she was too thrilled about doing it, and to be honest, I felt bad about asking her last minute.

Next time I travel, I'm going to do something like Animalodge so I don't have to unload my cat responsibilities to someone who's not in the "taking care of other people's pets" business.

So, what do you do? Do you board your animal(s) when you head out of town?  If so, you might want to check out this auction to get a deal on lodging (can also be used for grooming).  At the time I'm writing this, the bidding is at $170 for a $400 certificate.  My cat only cost $30, but I suppose he's worth the money.  I'm definitely never taking him on vacation.
