At a press meeting held on Monday, January 14, President Obama commented on the types of gun control measures he would push for in the coming months.  He also mentioned that he would use the method of executive order to circumvent congress and institute some of Vice President Joe Biden's gun recommendations. However, it is still unclear what exactly those recommendations are.

Some Republicans, like Texas Congressman Steve Stockman, threaten to attempt to impeach Obama if unconstitutional gun control measures are issued through executive order. "If he steps over the constitutional line . . . he says he's going to issue 19 executive orders. If he breaches his authority into legislation that impedes on the constitution we have the right to take different steps to counter that."

Senator Rand Paul has even accused Obama of behaving like a king. "I think having a monarch is what we fought the American Revolution over and someone who wants to bypass the Constitution, bypass Congress - that's someone who wants to act like a king or a monarch."

Although Biden has presented the President with a list of gun violence prevention actions, it is still unclear which actions the president will take. Today, January 16, Obama is set to announce the new measures. Obama is scheduled to hold a press conference where he will be surrounded by a group of children that sent in letters of concern shortly after the Sandy Hook shootings. The event will take place at 11:45 eastern time.
