A new report from State Farm Insurance shows that Montanans have one of the highest per-capita rates of deer collisions in the country.

"We are out with our annual ranking for states, and, once again, Montana is pretty high up in the list, coming in with a 1 in 75 chance that a driver will collide with a deer on Montana's roadways," said State Farm Spokesman Brad Hilliard.

The data for the study is collected from insurance claims in each state.

Even though Montana looks pretty bad compared to the rest of the country, where the rate of deer collisions is only 1 in 169, Montana actually improved from it's collision rate last year.

"The good news for Montana is that we are seeing a decrease in deer collisions: it's down about 15 percent from last year, when the rate was about 1 in 69," Hilliard said.

Montana ranked third on the list overall and showed remarkable improvement. Hilliard said that the deer information also included elk collisions.
